Welcome Ashlee!

I am so thrilled that Ashlee Williams is joining our running team. She is a wonderful mommy of 4 kiddos! She is also part of our family- married to my cousin for over 5 years, yet somehow, I only met her for the first time last November! (I know!) I am so looking forward to training with Ashlee when I get back to Vegas in October. She'll be running the Hoover Dam 1/2 marathon with me on December 15, 2012!

Ashlee says, "I am so excited to run for his glory because i want to run for more than my own personal satisfacion. I am excited to push myself farther than i have ever gone before. i know that i can do anything through christ who gives me strength and i am excited to be able to use this as a testimony to that.  One year after giving birth to my fourth child i WILL complete a 1/2 marathon and all the Glory will be his! I cant wait!"

Thank you so much Ashlee to committing to run for His glory and help us raise funds for our Kingdom work. See you in October!

Raul's Race

We are so thrilled to have Raul running on our team! He's running the San Francisco Marathon July 29 for His glory and to raise funds for our mission work!

***
Raul says:
My motivation since I first started running in 2004 has been Hebrews 12:
Therefore we also since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses (see Hebrews 11), let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the ross, despising the shame, and has sat down (after completing his work) at the right hand of the throne of God.

My running, is a metaphor for how I strive to live my life.  One step at a time, it's an endurance race & not a sprint.  It takes dedication, commitment, planning, and help from above.
I am "Free To Run", and it is Christ who has set me Free.

12.4.11

We're on!

We are registering for the Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon and have begun our pre-training. We both took a significant break from running after our race in the Spring to fully focus on the ministry at hand. Now that the summer is over (and what a sweet summer it was!) we are ready to jump back into running and get our race on!

Alan's been running in the evenings and is running an average of 3 miles.

I just started running this past week and am averaging 2 mile runs. I will have to get back to 3 comfortably before starting training September 4... yeah, I have 1 week to get there.

We'll be keeping you guys posted on our running and of course we are using the run as a way to raise money for our ministry. We'll be posting more about that in the coming days!

Peace,
Alan and Jackie

1 Day. 2 Events. 1 Purpose. To Bring Him Glory!

We are so grateful for the support and encouragement we received from our races this past weekend. It was an incredible day filled with so many blessings as me, my mom, Alan, and Mark ran in the Kentucky Derby Marathon Relay team while Rebekkah Gathright ran in the Nashville Music City 1/2 Marathon.

It is an honor for us to do this for His glory. We love being able to share the vision of G.O. and what God is doing to redeem people, renew communities, and restore creation. HE IS GOOD!!!!!

"Running this half marathon was a great experience for me.  During the race I focused on all the reasons why I run for His glory!  There are too many to name.  The only bad part was that the race ended too soon!  I had a blast and finished with a time of 2:16!  Being a part of this ministry has blessed me."
Rebekkah Gathright, I Run For His Glory team member

Why Tracy is Running For His Glory!

I (Jackie) have known Tracy for years and was always so amazed by her. She is a strong woman who loves Jesus, her family, and her community! It is always a blessing to get to see her when we go stateside. I am so grateful she is running on our team! Here's what she had to say about running for His glory!

"I have seen an amazing transition in Jackie as God has played His role out in her life. As a mother whose kids have 1/2 of their family in the DR it seemed like a perfect fit to sponsor Alan and Jackie. Their family are amazing and they touch so many people it is my turn to help her reach so much more. I run to keep sane, I run to have peace, I run to be with God now I am taking that step further and running so that so many more people may be reached through their mission. I challenge you all as I take my son through his first 1/2 marathon to join us in prayer and donations, no dollar goes untouched, no dollar goes unused. I am completely excited to be Running For HIS Glory!!!!"

Tracy is running the Pasadena 1/2 marathon on May 15th, 2011 for our team!

Upcoming Race!

A couple of our I Run FHG runners have a race coming up this weekend! You can support us by sponsoring them in their race! Here's the letter they sent out on our behalf. We would appreciate your prayers and support!

Dear Friends and Family,

The Context:
Three years ago, on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, we met Jackie and Alan Perez.   During that trip we saw the work this young couple is involved in with their parent organization, G.O. Ministries.  Over the last couple of years, we have continued to build our relationship with this ministry, and with Jackie and Alan, specifically.  We believe the work they are doing in the Dominican Republic and

Haiti is changing lives, and as a result we’ve decided to support Jackie and Alan by combining our pursuit of fitness with an ongoing fund-raising effort.

The Goal:
We are aiming to raise $5000 during 2011 to support Jackie and Alan through their Run for His Glory race sponsorship program, which you can read more about here.  Since our son, Elijah, is still a bit too young to take on mission trips, we decided that “Run for His Glory” is how we can still serve the Lord as a family, and increase our motivation to stay healthy for when we can head back out to the Dominican Republic together.

In the first half of 2011, we (Matt, Brooke, & yes, Elijah) are participating in the following races on behalf of the Perez’s:
Race
Distance
Location
Date
Result
Carneros Vineyard Run
10K
(6.2 miles)
Napa, CA
Saturday, March 26
TBD
Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon
13.1 miles
Castro Valley, CA
Sunday, June 5
TBD

Your Help:

By sponsoring us for either an amount per mile, or a one-time pledge, your support will help fund the mission work of the Perez family in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

If you would like to help there are two methods through which you can contribute:

Option 1
Option 2

Give a one-time gift with a credit card via the web.

Cash or check donations can be sent to:

G.O. Ministries
11501 Plantside Dr. Suite 14
Louisville, Ky 40299

In the memo line of your check, please write, "Perez/running fundraiser"

We are excited to see how folks respond in support of the work God is doing.  Thank you so much for your donation, and we will keep you updated on our progress!

Blessings,

Matt, Brooke, & Elijah Vaughn

Calico Half Marathon- January 8, 2011

Running a half marathon was incredible. It was both exhilarating and challenging.  We had so many obstacles during our training including my foot injury that really it wasn't until 2 days before the race that I decided to run it. I am so glad I did.

We run for His glory. We run to tell the stories of those who cannot. We run because He first loved us. We run to inspire others to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

I could give a mile by mile playback, but really the only thing that matters is that God was glorified! Each mile we clung to Him to bring us through the completion of the race, and I couldn't help but wonder why I don't live everyday that way.

It was a very spiritual time for me and I learned a lot from the experience.

We are so grateful for the love and support we received for our race. In total, we received close to $1000 for the race and Sheila's race in December raised around $500.

We plan on continuing to run for His glory and invite you to join us. You can join our running team and help us raise funds or sponsor us financially.

Please continue to pray for us and the ministry we are a part of!

Much peace,
Alan and Jackie

Welcome Mark Brockman!!

We have a new runner that has joined our team. Welcome Mark Brockman. I (Jackie) met Mark and his wife Judy when I came down on a short-term trip to the DR & Haiti and worked alongside of his team from Crestwood Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. We share so many wonderful memories of serving together the people in Santa Lucia.

When I flew to KY to interview with Brook Brotzman, President of G.O. it was the end of November and Mark and Judy took me to a local fish restaurant and to an event called "Light Up LaGrange, KY."

At that little fish place I heard for the first time Mark's story about how he began to run with Second Chance Racing. and I was inspired! He gave me hope that I could run too!

When I finally got out there and started running Mark and I kept talking about running together and finally last year when their team came to the DR we hit the streets of Santiago together... Now he is committing to Run For His Glory!

We will be running the KY Derby Marathon as a relay team!

"I love to run because God has given me the opportunity. Eight years ago, I had a heart attack. God chose to spare my life and I know He has a purpose for me in serving Him. He allows me to run and it has given me not only a healthier lifestyle, but great chances to share the Good News along the way. Running is a great sport because it doesn’t take much talent. You just put one foot in front of the other. I can handle that. :) When I am training, I get to observe God’s creation in the outdoors and have time to take advantage of one-on-one time with my Holy Father. Being able to complete endurance events like marathons and duathalons is a real gift. I don’t take it for granted." -Mark Brockman
